Philosophy

 

The Professional School Counselors at Our Lady of Fatima School believe:

  • All children are centered in Christ. They seek the guidance of Our Lady of Fatima under the dynamic influence of the Holy Spirit. We are committed to learning and called to augment leadership values in a Catholic community.
  • Every child’s development is fostered by enhancing their spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social needs in a positive and nurturing milieu.
  • All children have the right to participate in the comprehensive counseling program that assist children and families in their personal/social, academic, and career development to be proactive in meeting the challenges of life.

 

The Professional School Counseling Program should:

  • Be an integrative and vital component of the total educational  experience for the child(ren).
  • Be a comprehensive counseling program that collaborates with all appropriate stakeholders to facilitate each child’s maximum development.
  • Be proactive in nature by promoting the American School National Model in addressing the needs of the whole child which entails the spiritual, academic, social/emotional and physical development from Pre-K through eighth grade.
  • Utilize system support of stakeholders to maximize the delivery of programs.
  • Collect and utilize data to guide program development and evaluation.

 

The Professional Counselors will:

  • Actively participate in their Catholic faith.
  • Abide by the professional school counseling ethics and guidelines advocated by the American School Counselor Association.
  • Synergistically participate in professional development conferences and network to have a greater total effect for the school counseling program.
