Thinking is Critical to Success
The curriculum at Our
Lady of Fatima School is based on a strategy that utilizes manipulative-based
and developmentally appropriate activities with a focus on critical thinking
and reasoning skills.
A
Course Set For Excellence
Fatima has achieved
excellence by always looking to the future, and meeting the needs of our
students today as well as tomorrow. The curriculum includes courses in
religious education, literature, language arts, mathematics, social studies,
science, physical education, computer instruction and vocal/instrumental
music. The educational experiences of the children are enhanced by the
classroom multi-media centers, the media center in the state-of-the-art
library, two computer labs, and the hands-on science lab. Children are
introduced to a serious study of fundamental skills, which form a strong
and solid foundation for their later years.
Strengthened
by Challenge
Fatima meets the needs
of its students through advanced English and reading classes, two 8th
grade algebra I classes, resources for children with learning difficulties,
and participation in the gifted program. Fatima continues to strive to
meet the challenges of tomorrow. Fatima may now have the lowest class
size of any school in the Diocese.
A
Broader Horizon
Electives in the area
of computer literacy, speech, drama, art, band, chorus, French (grades
K-7), Family Living, or study and creative thinking skills are available
to junior high students. Our Lady of Fatima School is committed to providing
an environment for maximum learning and promoting the ability to think
critically in order to solve problems and make decisions. It is a proven
fact that aesthetic experiences can provide a foundation from which thought,
concepts, judgment and action spring.
Imagine
That!
Developing the imagination
influences the thinking process, the quality and quantity of ideas, values
and theories. Without imagination, creativity and intelligence are diminished.
At Fatima, students have numerous opportunities for self-expression through
the many art programs that are offered. Students are developing lifelong
thought processes and are learning how to organize and express their feelings.
Fatima provides many opportunities for a child to build an appreciation
for fine art and music. A unique staff includes instructors in the areas
of piano, voice, liturgical music, band, art appreciation, chorus, French,
art classes, art club, and opportunities for theatrical performance.
The
Subject of Focus
Fatima's unique biennial
symposium brings areas of interest such as archaeology, paleontology,
inventions, the human body, and literature to the forefront of the curriculum.
It also features hands-on exhibits and nationally recognized speakers.
Children
of Exception
Fatima has the only
educational program in the Diocese for students who are mild mentally
handicapped. Students are mainstreamed for some subjects while the core
curricular courses are administered in a self-contained classroom.
